| I was very disapointed: Rating: 3/5 |
I bought this DVD player because on the box says "plays virtually anything".
But when I came home i found out this playes does NOT playes everything. It does not playes every region...well dohhh.. I was mad, I was going to return it but I had thrown away the box and tha catalog. So I google it and found about this review and that other people had "hacked" it. So that is what i did also. Now Im pretty happy with this dvd player.
Without hacking it, this player would be useless. |

| I didn't buy this player for myself, but for a friend, who says it works very well, does what it says on the box and, all in all, well chuffed with it. Highly Recommended. |

I've had this neat little DVD player for a few months now. The sound and the progressive scan component video are both superb, whilst the SCART video output is as good as any. I can confirm that the multi-region hack works, and there are a couple of other useful hidden features. Firstly it will remember the point at which you stopped playback and recommence from there when you next insert the disk (and it would appear it can store this information for many disks). Secondly it has a volume control, albeit via the menu rather than using dedicated buttons. This latter feature is particularly useful if you take advantage of the excellent sound quality by feeding the audio through a (non-remote control) hi-fi system.
On the down side the build quality, whilst adequate, could not be called robust. Also the firmware is a little iffy and from time to time the player does strange things, such as displaying odd characters on the (somewhat unnecessary) LED display, or not firing up the video output once in a hundred times you hit the standby switch. The first of these issues might be a reason not to buy if you (or your family) are somewhat heavy-handed, but don't let the minor firmware problems put you off.
Overall I'm very happy, so I really hope the lightweight construction doesn't translate into a short lifespan. |
